XCM fork with Speed Lockout. The fork fitted to the Sulcata 1 is Suntour's XCM model with 120mm of lockout, the version fitted to the Sulcata features hydraulic speed lockout which enables the bike to switch from full travel to stiff with a switch on top of the fork and in easy reach of the rider. Once the fork is locked the bike will be more efficient on climbs, it can then simply be switched back to allow full travel as the trail flattens out.

To enhance the riding experience, we have also upgraded the drivetrain on the new Sulcata 1, moving from a triple chainset to a 2x (2 by). One less cog at the front means less weight and less maintenance but also makes changing gears more intuitive as fewer choices help you get the one you want quicker. and don't worry about the range of gears.

The Sulcata comes with a big 11-42T 10-speed cassette at the back wheel, so you've still got those important choices at the top and bottom end of the range.

Carrera Bikes

This bike was manufactured by Carrera, a well known brand of bikes sold by Halfords. Carrera are one of the most popular UK bike brands, and offer ranges of mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrids, folding bikes, kids bikes and more recently E-Bikes. Carrera bikes are known for their exceptional value, and are largely priced under £600, making them both accessible and appealing to the British public.

Carrera Mountain Bikes

Carrera are probably best known for their affordable range of men's and women's mountain bikes sold via Halfords. A Carrera mountain bike will typically cost between £300 and £600, and their selection largely comprises of hardtails with alloy frames, disc brakes and mid travel Suntour suspension forks. Popular models in their hardtail lineup include the Vengeance, Valour, Sulcata, Vulcan, Karkinos and Hellcat bikes. Carrera have also manufactured a handful of full suspension models, including the budget Detonate and slightly more expensive Titan and Titan X. Historically, Carrera manufactured 29er models, but in recent years they've focused on producing bikes with the smaller 27.5" wheel diameter.

Carrera Sulcata Mountain Bikes

Carrera Sulcata Bikes are a range of entry level alloy hardtail Mountain Bikes, featuring 10 or 11 Speed Shimano Deore Groupsets, either Suntour or RST Forks, Disc Brakes & 27.5" wheels, typically on sale between £400-£600. These bikes are aimed at newcomers to mountain biking, who want a bike which take some off-road punishment but also not cost the earth. The Sulcata frames are distinctive, with braces added to the crossbar / seat tube interface, and to increase strength, with further reinforcements near the headtube. Hence the lifetime frame guarantee - the Carrera Sulcata Bikes are built to last. As mentioned previously, the range currently feature mid travel suspension forks from Suntour or RST, usually offering 120mm of movement. For the money, the specifications are very impressive; well designed frame, branded forks, Deore drivetrain, 27.5" wheels and hydraulic disc brakes on an entry level bike - what's not to like? For the vast majority of riders venturing into mountain biking, a Sulcata would make a great starter bike.
