Track bikes essentially have one purpose - heading forwards very quickly - whilst they can be used on the road, they're ideally suited to riding within a velodrome - a fixed gear and no brakes makes anything else a tad difficult! Usually very aerodynamic and stiff, they're ideal for the budding Hoy or Pendleton!
